Brief History of the Founding of Chapter 337

In late 2004, Jan Bevilacqua and Mary Oliver of the Social Services Department at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, Illinois contacted Mended Hearts, Inc. to learn about establishing a chapter there. They were put in touch with Lillian Bornack, Midwest Regional Director of Mended Hearts, Inc.

In order to attract heart patients, Jan and Mary started a bi-monthly program of speakers and discussions on heart disease. They also solicited various work associates, who had an association with heart disease to join the new chapter. By the early summer of 2005, they had succeeded in collecting enough names to petition Mended Hearts Inc. to have a new chapter created in Barrington, Illinois at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital.

During July and August of 2005, formation meetings were conducted. The Chapter was officially chartered on September 15, 2005. The Charter was presented to the President in a ceremony on that date by Lillian Bornack, the Midwest Regional Director of Mended Hearts, Inc.

During the fall of 2005, a sub-committee created a set of by-laws for the chapter, which was voted on and accepted in January 2006.

The Chapter conducts a general meeting most months of the year with the exception of July. The Board of Directors of the chapter meet most months prior to the general meetings.
